Field School fee: 200 euro (includes tuition, local transport and self-catering accommodation)
Grants: Archaeolandscapes Europe offers 5 grants of up to 500 euro to support students with no extra funding. More information here

- 20th February : deadline for Field School Application
- 27th February : notification of accepted Field School students
- 5th March : notification of acceptance/rejection for an ArcLand grant
- 19th March : deadline for non-refundable Field School fee payment
- 7th April : Students arrive in Slane
- 8th to 13th April : Field School
- 14th April : Students depart from Slane
Acceptance will be based on a process of evaluation of the applications received during the application period. A short statement, 2 letters of support and a CV will be required for the ArcLand grant application.
Objectives: This course is aimed at graduates from an archaeology or earth sciences background. It will introduce surface collection, low level aerial photography, upstanding building recording and a range of archaeological geophysical techniques. It will provide an understanding of the principles of and hands-on experience of the basic field operation of the techniques. There will also be instruction in data processing, data interpretation and reporting.
Programme: thematic blocks
- Site orientation and the archaeological objectives of the site and upstanding building survey
- Introduction to surface collection, kite aerial photography (KAP) and terrestrial laser scanning. Field survey
- Introduction to terrestrial remote sensing techniques. Field survey
- Data downloading, processing and presentation
- Data Integration: Integrating aerial photographs and ground-based results
- Interpretation and presentation of results
